24 March European Artisanal Ice Cream Day: the news of the 11th edition of Gelato Day

New prestigious collaborations and the return of the competition that puts the creativity of the Ice cream masters from all over Europe: preparations for the’eleventh edition of the European Sustainability Day
Ice cream, that the 24 March It will celebrate in Italian and European cities (and beyond) one of the most loved products in the world.

The next 24 March We will celebrate theeleventh edition of the European Day of Artisanal Gelato: a unique opportunity to pay homage to one of the most loved products in the world and promote artisan knowledge and the development of the sector's gastronomic tradition. From the north to the south of Italy and throughout Europe, to the sound of Apfelstrudel-flavoured cones and cups – il Flavour of the Year chosen by Austria – , artisanal ice cream will therefore be the only and true protagonist with events, meetings and initiatives for gourmands of all ages.

NEW PARTNERSHIPS

Among the main novelties of this edition, new Important collaborations. From Gelato Festival World Masters, the world's largest competition dedicated to artisanal ice cream, which will bring an information campaign, under the banner of Artisanal ice cream culture, in its events in 22 countries: in particular, during the challenge, gelato makers will be invited to celebrate Gelato Day on March 24th, creating the Apfelstrudel Flavor of the Year. The collaboration with the Red Shrimp which will involve all the ice cream parlors of the renowned Guide of Ice Cream Parlors of Italy to take part in the celebrations and to prepare the Flavour of the Year as only the best ice cream makers in Italy can do: with skill, technique, but above all creativity and passion, offering unexpected variations of Apfelstrudel. Another important partner of the 2023 edition is theItalian Association of Gelato Makers and its "Ice cream in spring", the event that every year since 1986 sees for a whole week ice cream makers from all over Italy offer an ice cream to elementary and kindergarten students to promote, in a simple but always highly appreciated form, one of the products of excellence of Made in Italy. Finally, to support the European Day of Artisanal Gelato there will also be Magnifici del Gelato, a free group of artisanal gelato makers who have come together to communicate in an innovative way with all enthusiasts and which brings together some of the best Italian ice cream parlors, with a campaign dedicated to Gelato Day that will run between the pages of national newspapers and the digital pages of social platforms and Food Professional Network. In addition, from 16 to 18 March, the world of ice cream will involve Italian institutions, bringing tastings of typical flavors of local traditions. And let's not forget Confartigianato National which has always supported the European Day of Artisanal Gelato with initiatives, campaigns and involving all its regional and provincial associates, and Gelato Veneto, the association that aims to promote the ice cream parlour activities of the Venetian tradition active both in Italy and in Germany, with the "Highest ice cream in Italy". Gelato Day 2023 is also supported by the Campania Gelato Makers Committee and the National Committee for the Defence of the Diffusion of Artisanal Ice Cream.

THE VIDEOCONTEST

After last year's success, 2023 also brings together master ice cream makers from all over Europe with the video contest organized by Artglace, which will feature "Apfelstrudel", the Taste of the Year 2023. The challenge invites all participants to make a video of a maximum duration of 90 seconds in which to show the creation of the official recipe, customizing it with creativity and mastery, starting with a white-based ice cream with apple pulp and a light flavoring with rum and lemon oil, to which a sprinkling of cinnamon is added, sultanas, preferably dark, and breadcrumbs. The Participation, free and open to all European gelato makers, will be valid from 1 March to 30 September: the videos will then be evaluated by a jury of experts, called upon to express a vote on the basis of certain criteria, namely originality of the presentation, quality of the video, illustration of the production process, aesthetics and decoration of the tray. The first three European gelato makers classified will be awarded as part of the presentation ceremony of the twelfth edition of Gelato Day, which will be held at the Rimini Exhibition Centre on the occasion of SIGEP 2024 (complete rules available on the website ww.gelato-day.com). And that's not all: all the videos received by Artglace will be published on the Gelato Day YouTube channel, giving the Opportunity for all the gourmands of the world to enter the laboratories and discover the work, mastery and creativity behind an excellent tub of ice cream.

And the events do not end here, quite the contrary. In fact, there are numerous initiatives that on the occasion of the European Artisan Gelato Day will animate, including Taste, solidarity and culture, all over Italy and Europe.
