THE 8TH EDITION OF "GELATO DAY" SPEAKS DUTCH: THE FLAVOR OF 2020 IS STRAWBERRY VARIEGATED YOGURT
MASTER GELATO MAKERS FROM ALL OVER EUROPE ARE PREPARING TO CELEBRATE IT ON MARCH 24TH, ON THE EUROPEAN DAY OF ARTISANAL GELATO, A GASTRONOMIC EXCELLENCE THAT SEES ITALY AS A WORLD LEADER

Longarone, 2 December 2019 – It is one of the most genuine and popular flavours ever and is about to become the protagonist of Gelato Day 2020, the European Day of Artisanal Gelato that will be celebrated throughout Europe on 24 March. Let's talk about yogurt ice cream with strawberries: a delicacy that pays homage to Holland, a country that will be at the center of the 8th edition of Gelato Day. The announcement comes on the occasion of the 60th International Gelato Exhibition, the international trade fair focused on the "cold dessert" that, every year, at the beginning of winter, attracts ice cream makers from all over the world to Longarone Fiere.
THE TASTE OF THE YEAR. After a 2019 in the name of Italian spirit with the authentic Tiramisu, it will be the turn of Holland with strawberry variegated yogurt. A taste that will be possible to taste in all the ice cream parlors in Europe participating in the "Gelato Day". After all, Holland is known not only for its characteristic windmills and colorful tulips, but also for a long tradition of cheese making and for its strawberries of extraordinary quality. The "Taste of the Year 2020" was born, in fact, in the name of goodness and well-being. Yogurt is considered to all intents and purposes a functional food, often chosen for its lightness and high nutritional properties, like, for that matter, strawberries: they are very rich in nutrients, have reduced calorie intake and multiple beneficial properties. In the Netherlands it is possible to find them all year round, so much so that in the ranking drawn up by FAOSTAT the country is in 16th place among producers, with 66,100 tons made in 2017.
ICE CREAM DAY. The European Day of Artisanal Gelato has been officially celebrated since 2013 and is the only "Day" that the European Parliament has dedicated to a food, the heritage of all gelato makers and of the entire supply chain, with the following motivations: "Among fresh dairy products, artisanal ice cream represents excellence in terms of quality and food safety, enhancing the agri-food products of each individual Member State". And in addition to being delicious for the palate, artisanal ice cream represents yet another success story of Made in Italy, both for turnover and number of ice cream parlors on the national territory (about 39,000), but also for the presence in Italy of the most important companies of ingredients, machines and showcases for ice cream.
The "Gelato Day" is therefore a unique opportunity to communicate the merits and virtues of artisanal productions, which have always been an expression of quality, authenticity and territoriality. And the "gourmand-gourmand tasters" will not only find the new Flavor of the Year in all the participating ice cream parlors in Italy and Europe, but will also be able to participate in initiatives and events that will be unveiled shortly (coordinated promotions between ice cream makers in the same area, themed contests, masterclasses for children and teachers dedicated to the processing of ice cream and its properties, events with sports organizations or associations engaged in the field of solidarity), many of which will travel through the web and social networks thanks to the www.gelato-day.it website and the official Gelato Day accounts on Twitter and Facebook (www.facebook.com/EuropeanGelatoDay).
The European Day of Artisanal Gelato was born from an idea of Longarone Fiere and Artglace and the 2020 edition sees ACOMAG as a partner – National Association of Manufacturers of Machinery, Furnishings and Equipment for Gelato, Italian Association of Gelato Makers, Committee of Campania Gelato Makers, CNA, Confartigianato, Italian Federation of Gelato Makers, G.A. – National Committee for the Defence and Diffusion of Artisanal and Own Gelato, Masters of Italian Gelateria, SIGEP – International Exhibition of Artisan Gelato, Pastry, Bakery and Coffee of Italian Exhibition Group, and UIF – Italian Food Union.

The European Day of Artisanal Gelato is the only day that the European Parliament has so far dedicated to a food. Celebrated on March 24 of each year in all European countries, with events, meetings and initiatives aimed at spreading the culture of artisanal gelato, "Gelato Day" is a unique opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of this product, the promotion of artisan knowledge and the development of the gastronomic tradition of the sector. A peculiarity of the "Gelato Day" is the "Flavor of the Year", chosen every year by one of the participating countries: for the eighth edition of Gelato Day on March 24, 2020 it will be the variegated yogurt with strawberries, chosen by the Netherlands.
